The primary feature of this high-efficiency gear box is a worm gear, which locks the output shaft whenever the motor is not turning. The high equipment ratios of 216:1 or 336:1 make this gearbox appropriate for small strolling robots, lifting mechanisms, and other applications where high torque is desired.
The low-voltage motors in the worm gearbox run on 1.5-4.5 volts and draw up to a few amps, making them perfect applicants for the DRV8833 motor driver carrier. Motor overheating can be due to excessive stalling, actually at very low voltages. We recommend that you use stall-detection sensors, or just watch your robot, to make sure that it doesn’t stall for lots of seconds at a time.
This gearbox has a 4 mm diameter, round output shaft, which works together with the wheels that are compatible with Tamiya 4 mm, round shafts. Our 3 mm universal installation hub also matches on small threaded end of the shaft, although it is not particularly intended to work with this kind of shaft (the hub’s set screw could damage the thread on the shaft).
